Honorary Fellowships
The IMR Advisory Council awards a small number of fellowships to UK and international figures whose distinguished contribution it wishes to honour. Nominations are sought from and decided upon by the Advisory Council.
Visiting Research Fellowships
These non-stipendiary fellowships are open to UK and international researchers wishing to benefit from a London base, normally for between one and four months. Those wishing to apply are asked to contact the Director in the first instance, and to provide a summary CV and one academic reference. Fellows benefit from shared office space plus photocopying and computer facilities, free access to IMR events, a Senate House library card, and remote access to the e-resources of the University of London Research Library Services. A bench fee of £90 per month (rising to £100 per month from October 2011) is payable in advance or on arrival. There are no application deadlines.
Overseas Doctoral Fellowships
These non-stipendiary fellowships are open to PhD students at overseas institutions who are in need of a London base. They are tenable for up to a year. Those wishing to apply are asked to contact the Director in the first instance, and to provide a statement of research (500 words), a summary CV and two academic references. Fellows benefit from shared office space plus photocopying and computer facilities, free access to IMR events, a Senate House library card, and remote access to the e-resources of the University of London Research Library Services. A bench fee of £45 per month (rising to £50 per month from October 2011) is payable in advance or on arrival. There are no application deadlines.
Early Career Research Associateships
These one-year appointments are open to UK and international researchers of outstanding promise who have no current academic affiliation. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have moved well beyond doctoral-level study; but they will normally be no more than four years beyond the successful defence of their PhD when taking up the appointment. They should also be in a position to contribute to the life of the Institute during their tenure (e.g. chairing or helping convene events). Those wishing to apply should contact the Director in the first instance, and will be required to submit a full CV, a letter of application, and one academic reference. Early Career Research Associates benefit from free access to IMR events, a Senate House library card, and remote access to the e-resources of the University of London Research Library Services, but no office space or other infrastructural support. Applications for these Fellowships are submitted to at least one member of the Advisory Council for comment. There are no application deadlines.
Associate Fellowships
These non-stipendiary, renewable, three-year appointments are intended for established independent researchers and for emeritus scholars from institutions outwith the University of London. Applicants should be in a position to contribute to the life of the Institute during their tenure (e.g. chairing or helping convene events); renewal will be conditional on such activity. Those wishing to apply should contact the Director in the first instance, and will be required to submit a summary CV and a letter of application. Associate Fellows benefit from discount-rate access to IMR events, a Senate House library card, and remote access to the e-resources of the University of London Research Library Services, but no office space or other infrastructural support. Applications are submitted to at least one member of the Advisory Council for comment. There are no application deadlines.
