The conference theme is 'Sound, Music and the Moving Image', and we intend this in the broadest possible sense. Bringing together practitioners and scholars from various disciplines, the conference will provide the opportunity to reflect on and challenge prevailing approaches to the sound/music and moving image relationship, and also to propose new directions in this dynamic field.
Keynote addresses will be provided by Professor Anahid Kassabian (University of Liverpool) and Professor Richard Dyer (Kings College, London). There will also be a keynote interview and composition masterclass with Academy Award nominee Dario Marianelli (Pride and Prejudice, V for Vendetta). A cinema organ event featuring Donald MacKenzie playing the five-manual Compton at the Odeon, Leicester Square will form part of the programme.
The conference immediately precedes 'Musicology and Recordings', the combined CHARM (Centre for the History and Analysis of Recorded Music) and Royal Musical Association annual meeting (13-15 September, Royal Holloway, University of London).
The programme committee comprises: Julie Brown (Royal Holloway University London) David Cooper (University of Leeds) Annette Davison (University of Edinburgh) Miguel Mera (Royal College of Music) Albrecht Riethmueller (Institut fur Musikwissenschaft, Berlin
