IMR Research Training Reading Group: 'Classic Texts in Music and Culture'

The IMR Research Training Reading Group is led by Prof Anahid Kassabian (University of Liverpool).

The rationale of the reading group is

·         to stimulate focused reading of classic texts on cultural and social theory

·         to provide dedicated time for postgraduates to discuss in depth the broad implications and applications of these writings across a variety of research topics in musicology (meeting twice per term at the IMR)

·         to create a sense of intellectual community and develop the research culture for postgraduates around the IMR

The first two sessions were held on Friday 29 October 2010 (in Stewart House, Room STB3) and Tuesday 23 November 2010 (in Senate House, Room G35), 2pm-5pm. The first session will consider Walter Benjamin’s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, and the second, Derek Scott’s The Sexual Politics of Victorian Musical Aesthetics.
